Tonya is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has worked in a variety of settings within the counseling field throughout the years.
She obtained her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of St. Mary’s and her Marriage and Family Therapy Certification from St. Thomas University. She has been licensed through the state of Minnesota as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2011. She is an Approved Supervisor with The Mn Board of Behavioral Health and The Mn Board of Marriage and Family Therapy. She has specialized training in trauma counseling and utilizes EMDR – an effective therapy tool to promote healing for a variety of areas (See the EMDR page under “services” for more information).
She has experience in working with individuals and couples that are affected by a variety of mental and chemical health concerns. In relationships, she works on enhancing communication, creating mutual respect, trust, listening, and validation skills. She utilizes a family systems approach and works to enhance resiliency and inner strength to cope with life’s struggles. Tonya works with individuals for a variety of issues including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, relationships, grief/loss, trauma, abuse, addictions, family of origin issues, self-esteem, and codependency. Tonya values integrating a faith-based perspective into the counseling process. This is directed by each individual client given personal value systems presented in session.
Tonya has been married for 25 years and she has two adult children. She enjoys time with family, working in her flower beds, enjoying the peace found in nature. She is humbled to walk alongside others in their life journey.
