Garland Douglas-Ching is a prelicensed psychotherapist in the process of working towards her state licensure for Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT). She graduated with her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel University.
Garland utilizes a collaborative, relational, empathetic, and strength-based approach to support kids, teens, adults, couples, and families navigating areas such as anxiety, depression, identity development, perfectionism, self-esteem, communication issues, intimacy, sexuality, grief, life transitions, trauma, parenting challenges, attachment wounds, and spiritual and faith concerns.
Clients frequently share that Garland creates a warm, emotionally safe environment where they feel heard, understood, and supported on their journey toward healing and personal growth. Garland believes that meaningful change happens within the context of a strong therapeutic relationship, one that is built on trust, safety, and authenticity, where clients can truly be themselves. She is passionate about providing culturally responsive care and welcomes the integration of faith and spirituality at the level that feels most meaningful and comfortable to each client.
Garland has received additional training in play therapy and discernment counseling, a short-term approach that helps couples gain clarity about their relationship and decide whether to pursue reconciliation or separation. Her background in play therapy supports developmentally appropriate interventions for children.
She is also a certified PREPARE/ENRICH Facilitator, which enhances her work with couples, both premarital and married, seeking to deepen connection, improve communication, and build strong, healthy relationships.
Her work with clients is informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, and Somatic practices.
In her free time, Garland enjoys watercoloring, making kombucha, reading, learning to play the ukulele with her husband, and tending to her numerous plants.
