Karin Hagfors-Maly

Karin is a psychotherapist completing her state licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). Karin graduated from Bethel University with a master’s in psychology counseling and earned her B.A. in Applied Psychology with an emphasis on clinical and behavioral psychology from St. Cloud State University. She also earned a degree in Social Work and held a Social Worker License before taking leave to raise her family. Karin garnered a lot of experience working with single parents and dislocated workers to help them secure employment while navigating life challenges.

Karin enjoys working with adults on various issues including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, adjustment to life transitions, as well as many other issues. Karin incorporates a variety of therapeutic approaches with clients including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative therapy (telling me your story), Exposure therapy, Existential therapy, and Client-Centered (humanistic) Therapy. Karin desires to meet each client where they are in their healing process without any judgement. She believes it is important for each person’s autonomy to be reflected in their therapeutic partnership with her. Karin personalizes every approach to help each client identify their challenges and reach their goals.

Karin counsels from a Christian framework that is based upon a relationship with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, and loves seeing clients set free by replacing lies with truth. She respects and welcomes those who may not identify as Christian, persons identifying as LGTBQ+, as well as Christians desiring to incorporate their faith into their therapeutic process.

Karin has been married for 26 years. She spent 8 years homeschooling and 4 years teaching preschoolers. She has been active in her home church for 21 years and her community for 5 years. In her free time, she enjoys nature, walks, crafts, photography and spending time with her adult children and grandchildren.

Passionate about providing a safe, respectful, warm and inclusive environment, Karin enables clients to work through various concerns.  Approaching each client person-centered, she creates a space to begin the healing process. Karin would be honored to journey with you through your therapeutic process.
