Human Beings vs. Human Doings

No matter how many years pass on this earth before Christ returns mankind will never outgrow the truth that we were made to serve our God. In a world where the most common picture taken is a “Selfie” and people strive for individuality or independence over obedience and servitude, we find that something is missing in our day to day lives. What is missing is not a lack of things to do, that often “fill” or overwhelm our calendars, but at the end of the day when we have checked so many of those to-do boxes that fall between waking up and going to bed, while leaving behind unchecked boxes to wake up to in the morning, we learn that it is not about living a full life but rather living a life that is fulfilling! After all we are human “beings” and not human “doings”!

Let us always examine the life of Jesus to find the best way to live our lives.

Philippians 2:5-8
King James Version
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in the fashion of a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death—even the death of the cross.

This one verse of scripture highlights so many aspects of Jesus’ character that we are to emulate in order to live the abundant and fulfilling life that he came to make available (John 10:10). He humbled himself, he was obedient, he didn’t care about his reputation and he took upon himself the form of a servant. Let us follow his example so that we may live a fulfilling life that is pleasing to our God.
