The Significance of Being Created

Author: Wendy Muenchow

Michelangelo, da Vinci, Bach, Beethoven, Gaudí: Great masters of art, music, and architecture. Their work stands the test of time; their images, sounds, and structures bear the marks of those who carefully crafted these masterpieces. It took time, energy, forethought, inspiration, and hard work to design and create such beauty. And yet, if someone were to ask the artists why they create, they would likely answer, “For the joy of making something beautiful.”

Most artists would agree that the creation process is both exhilarating and fulfilling. As an artist, when I create something, I don’t think about what others might think about the piece. I simply create to experience the joy of the process and making something out of nothing. When I create, I feel that there is a part of me in the finished product. It is a reflection of who I am.

It is only recently that I understood on a deeper level what God had in mind when He created humans. Someone had shared something about the heart of the Father, and the deep understanding of the significance of being created by Him. God showed me, in a way that I would understand as a person who loves to create, why we are so precious and special to Him. He works the fibers of our lives together in a way that reflects a part of Himself. When He knit us together in our mother’s wombs (Ps. 139:13), He did so with purpose, and a plan (Jer. 29:11). He created us with passion and love, and the desire to see us have a complete and fulfilled relationship with Him. His sole purpose in creating us was to have relationship with us; to love us and receive our love (worship). We were created to worship Him!

Some have wondered about that. They wonder if God needs people to worship Him, like somehow He’s narcissistic and craves that to feel better about Himself. But if we look at the word “worship” and look at the definition, we find this: “Show reverence and adoration for a deity” (Dictionary.com). Reverence is a deep respect for someone, and adoration means deep love and respect. Isn’t that what healthy relationships are all about? When we truly love someone, we show them respect and love through our actions and our words. If we were created to worship Him, we were created for relationship with Him in the deepest, most meaningful way.

He put Himself into each and every one of us through His Spirit and He breathed life into our being, not just for our own joy and the enjoyment of one another in relationship, but specifically to be in a relationship with His very creation! What’s more important is that He chose to have this special relationship with humans, not any other part of creation. Instead, He made all of that for us to enjoy! If that doesn’t show you how special you are to Him, I don’t know what will!

So when the enemy tries to whisper in your ear that you are less than, remind yourself that God created you with a purpose, as a reflection of Him, and for relationship with Him. Also remember that you are a masterpiece in the making. He is not done with you yet, and when the finished product is complete, others will look at you in awe, and be reminded of the glory of God.
