Wise as an Ant

In some ways, the body of Christ is like ant colonies. We have our individual churches where we come back together to meet and support each other, as we prioritize and pursue the Kingdom of God. We go about our lives gathering resources that benefit us, and sometimes benefit others.

Proverbs 6:6-8 says, “Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise. Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gather her food in the harvest”.

The Lord wants us to gain wisdom observing the routine of this tiny, insignificant creature. Ants are diligent, energetic, and persistent. No matter how many obstacles you put in front of them, they will relentlessly try to overcome every single obstacle. I have never seen an ant give up and turn around. I promise you will wear out before that ant does. They have a goal of self-preservation and preservation of their colony, and they will not be deterred. The only way to stop them is to take them out completely.

This is the wisdom God wants us to gain, own the same determination as the ant. No matter how much the enemy harasses you, no matter how many challenges of offense or temptations he puts in your path, if you have the mindset that you will outlast him, you will win! God’s love in you is greater than all the toxicity in the world.

As the body of Christ, we are stronger together. Have you ever seen ants in a flood? They will link together creating a raft, with the queen, smaller ants, and larvae carried on top. They float along until they hit dry land and can recolonize. There are none insignificant among them. When the floods of life enter, God meant for us to cling together and support each other until we are in a safe place again. One ant alone will not survive. When trials feel overwhelming, seek out those in the body of Christ that can carry you in prayer and encouragement. And be the safe person when a crisis hits others.
